Cox Wood Explorer Scout Unit

The Explorer Scout Unit at Cox Wood has been set up so as to provide a service team for the District camp site, while allowing Explorer Scouts to put into practice the skills they have learnt through Scouting, and to learn new ones. These activities will count towards the Duke of Edinburgh and Scouting Awards schemes. The District Explorer Scout Commissioner and members of the Cox Wood Management Committee currently run the Unit.

When do we meet?

We meet on alternate Saturdays 10am until 1pm, at Cox Wood campsite. Click here for a list of scheduled meetings.

With regards to the programme, a fair amount of time will be spent working on the site, but not all of it! We will have camps and expeditions away from the site and may utilize some of the facilities offered by local Scout Groups.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to undertake training to assist in running some of the activities offered by the site such as carting, BMXing and climbing.

Definition of 'Working on the Site': Maintaining the site's facilities, running activities, designing and building new activities, creating programmes for Groups to undertake etc.

How much do you need to pay to become a Member? Subscription is £5 per calendar month and covers the annual Membership fee, running costs, and may go a little way to subsidising certain activities. If your main Unit is not Cox Wood then you will not be subsidised and will need to pay the full rate for any activities you join us for.

What equipment will you need?

It's not all work! With this being the case, you are advised to have your own personal camping and expedition gear (a list is available on request). If you are missing certain pieces of equipment we may be able to borrow some pieces from other Scout Groups.

When working on site it is advisable that you have the following equipment:

Uniform

All Explorer Scouts are required to own, as a minimum, an Explorer Scout shirt and District Explorer Scout scarf.
